Weddings

Two weddings in two weekends. One was Dawn’s brother and the other was a close friend in Nashville. I love the optimism of a wedding. No couple comes together in perfection, but as a new life together is beginning there is an optimistic belief in the beauty of God creating us male and female. I like to be part of that. Both weddings were outdoors which is the norm these days. I think it makes sense to be out in God’s creation since both we and marriage are part of God’s creating genius.
What scriptures would you use if you were planning the ceremony? I try to use different ones for each wedding. We don’t often think of Lamentations as a book for weddings but that is what I used last Saturday. Lamentations 3 includes, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies are new every morning.” That is a truth on which you can build a marriage. So much of life changes and can fall apart but not the love of God. It is as solid as rock and can always be counted on.
