Sermon: “The Temptation of Jesus” Hebrews 4:14-16

Smoke

Smoke

Have you noticed the smoke in the air? It is from wildfires in the western US and Canada. It is hard to believe that smoke can travel that far. It makes me wonder how bad it must be out west. I see a lot of similarities between this and the sinful messes in which people find themselves. In most cases we see the aftermath of what is hurting them, much like seeing the smoke from destructive fires. How do we react in these cases? It isn’t that hard to just decide it isn’t my problem and not worry about it. I can blame them or judge them for what they have or haven’t done. How did Jesus react when he saw the effects of sin that he knew was devastating people? If you want the answer to this, think back to the sacrament we observe every Sunday – the Lord’s Supper. The Lord’s Supper looks back to the time when Jesus took responsibility for all the sins we had collectively committed and put them on his back. Praise God that he reacted in this way.

Have a great weekend.
